Welcome Bag

Now that we have our referral, one of the fun things we get to do is prepare a welcome bag to send to our son. Our agency provides very specific instructions as to what goes into these, taking into consideration weight, size, durability, and the feelings of the other children in the orphanage.

Here's what we are allowed to put into it:

1) Family letter
2) Photo album
3) T-shirt (when a child receives it, they put it on and this is a sign that he now has a family)
4) 2 toys, value no more than $10

It has to all fit into a gallon ziploc bag and weigh no more than 3lbs.

This weekend we worked on Chala's bag. Keeping his young age in mind, our family letter was very short...and just talked about how excited we are to meet him and have him join our family. Ella and Ezra painted him a picture on the back of the letter.

His photo album included several pictures of our entire family, Ella and Ezra, our house, his new room, Levi the dog, our backyard, etc.

We went shopping as a family and allowed Ezra and Ella to pick out one toy each for their new brother. Of course Ezra picked out a "ighneen aqueen" (Lightning McQueen) and Ella choose a toy airplane. A dinosaur t-shirt was agreed upon as well.

We labeled all the photo's and assembled the bag and it will be mailed off this morning.

What I wouldn't give to see his face receive it!

How special and sweet! Love the gifts that were chosen and the pictures of the kids painting! I can't imagine the little bit of pride that comes with getting to wear the t-shirt saying "I have a new family!" Very cool!

I think his face might resemble Ezra's... I love that little guy and his expressions and you caught it beautifully.

How fun! I read your Mom's last post about stories from some of her kids about their orphanage experiences. Can't wait to get our little guys home and love on them! :)

P.S. These pics are really great!

Great pics. I bet it is so exciting to be putting together this bag for Chala. I can't even imagine how he will feel when he gets to wear his T shirt and see all of YOUR photos!!
