all about the ezra

I have started and stopped this post about 4 different times. **And then forgot to finish it altogether as this was supposed to post on his birthday 4 weeks ago!**

I'm just not sure which direction I want to go with this as Ezra is...well, Ezra. There is no real explaining him or understanding him all of the time. I believe the Lord knew exactly how hard of a child he would be to parent and knit in my heart an extremely soft spot for him at the same time he was being knit together in my womb.

Oh, Ezra.

How many times a day do I say that in my head?
Innumerable.
For both amazing and discouraging moments.

I am still trying to wrap my brain around the fact that he is five now.

Ezra was born in the wee hours of the morning, almost 5 weeks early, and weighed in at 6lbs 3oz. He was a delightfully content baby...happy and smiley. Goodness, was he smiley. He never met a stranger and never went through separation anxiety. He was the kind of kid that just made people feel good the way he would get so excited to see you.

And then 18 months hit.

Goodness, he was still smiley.
But he was also very very very particular, adamant, determined, and almost impossible to redirect.
I learned (and am still learning...) that unless he is engaged in an activity, trouble will abound.
He is affectionately termed our "high maintenance" child.

And no, I am not labeling him...it is who he is.

He isn't eager to please or obedient or laid back.
He is passionate.
Artistic.
Bold and loud.
Not a people pleaser.
Perfectionist.
Highly sensitive. He gets his feelings hurt more than any of the other kids.
Unexpected.
A great friend.
Still loves fruit the most.
Still has never met a stranger.
Would rather do "crafts" than almost anything else.
Has an extreme need for physical touch...loves his back rubbed, to snuggle, to sit close, etc.
Doesn't like loud noises.
Or itchy tags.
Loves letters.
Has an amazingly contagious giggle.

And just when I think I have something figured out with him...
he changes and surprises me.

Life is never dull with Ezra around. I wrote before how parenting has driven me closer the Lord like no other experience in my life, and revealed my inadequacies. Parenting Ezra has been no exception to that.

Being Ezra's mommy is making me more patient, more understanding, and way better at crafts that I ever dreamed I would be.

I have mentioned a time or two that it is good that he is so cute...

I know that the Lord has big plans for his big personality...and I'm so glad I get to be along for the journey! Wearing my 5 point harness of course, cause its gonna be a wild ride!

Dear Ezra,

You are my crazy smart sweet boy and I am so in love with you. I truly like hanging out with you...playing wild games with you on the trampoline, drawing tree houses, building block fortresses, seashell hunting, and flower collecting. You have an amazingly strong personality that demands attention from others. My prayer is that you will use that attention to one day be a bold witness for Jesus. He is all you will ever need and your Daddy and I continuously pray that your heart would be soft to turn to Jesus at a young age.

You are so loved in this family. Zoe adores you, Eli is your favorite partner in crime, and Ella loves beating you in all your daily competitions. You are one of a kind and I'm so glad you are mine.

Love forever,

Your Momma

I love this guy too...especially his very independent and unique personality. I love that he knows what he likes and loves and no one will change his mind ...I can so imagine what a mighty, strong man of God he will be with this personality.

He is possibly one of the cutest kids on the planet. He will certainly be a heartbreaker! With the two of you as parents how could he not be gorgeous?

He IS such a sweet (and unpredictable at times) little guy! I love this post about him; he's just adorable. I still think if him and Kayil get married...we may need more than our five-point harnesses for THAT ride! :) BUT, their children would be beautiful ;)
