Homeschool: Busy Beavers and Guppy Love

We discovered that our beavers were back at it here at the farm recently. Of course this sparked the interest of my curious five year old...and led to the topic of our school this week. We learned all kinds of beaver facts reading books, watching videos, and walking around the pond to see the real life work of our very own backyard beavers:

  • They are nocturnal and herbivores (or noctavores, according to Ella's dictionary).
  • They can hold their breath for up to 15 minutes underwater.
  • Their babies are called kits.
  • They have clear eyelids that protect their eyes underwater but still allow them to see.
  • They mate for life.
  • They have webbed feet.
  • They use their tails for balancing on two feet while chewing down a tree.
See. You learned something new today didn't you.

Here's one of the trees they've been working on:

And of course, Happy Love Day, is just around the corner so we had to make our valentine's this week. I always get the best ideas from these people.

Stay tuned for a lot of I Love You day posts over the weekend...
